In the past this used to be an industrial area, hosting the first manufacturing activities of the city; the plants of “Battiferro G.B. Bertoli”, a metallurgic factory, water-powered by the local Roggia di Udine ditch, stood here at the beginning of the 20th century.
The upgrading of the industrial area was carried out through a private detailed town-planning scheme. The project consists in the realisation of buildings, which can be grouped into three main sectors:
One sector is located inside zone D2 (industry/manufacturing) and covers an overall area of 19,000 sqm. Another sector is situated inside zone B1, (residential/services) covering a total area of 106,000 sqm. The third is inside zone H, sub-zone H2 (retail/leisure), covering a total area of 33,000 sqm.
